First Stop, Barcelona

We kicked off the trip in the perfect way, spending the first three days in Barcelona, Spain. After settling in to our sky rise apartment with an amazing view of the city, we walked around to get a feel for the city and find somewhere to enjoy some of Spain's famous tapas. Our first night there just so happened to be be the night of FCBarcelona's biggest fùtbol game of the year so we found a bar with a TV where we could watch the game and celebrate each goal with the locals. One of my favorite parts of Barcelona, though, was the next day when we happened to stumble upon the welcome back parade for the team.

Barcelona is covered in art and architecture by Antoni Gaudí, whose work truly is gaudy. We visited his cathedral and saw several of the buildings he designed, as well as Park Güell where you can see several of Gaudí's colorful mosaics and an amazing view that overlook all of Barcelona.

If you've never tried paella, put it on your bucket list now. Of all the new food I tried, this Spanish mixture of seafood, rice, and amazing flavor was my favorite dish by far. Oh, and did I mention it's even better when eaten at a beachfront restaurant that overlooks the Mediterranean?

On our last night there, we got together with some A&M friends studying abroad at the local university and decided to check out the night life Barcelona is so famous for. Aside from enjoying some sangria, which you can only get by the liter (perfect for sharing), we ventured to a local shot bar where the shot menu took up an entire wall. With 580 different options, we chose wisely picking shots like "Harry Potter" and "La Torcha" which were both set on fire.

After Barcelona, we flew to Milan to pick up a rental car and visit the Duomo. In less than 24 hours we hit three different countries driving from Spain, through Italy, and into France, ending in Cannes where we are now...but more about that will be on the next post!
